Welcome to Kind of Extraordinary
Hello. I see you. (And I get it.)
If you’ve spent your morning hovering over a half-finished SEND form that you’ve been putting off until 2 days before the deadline, or if you’ve just come from a school meeting where you felt like you were speaking a different language to everyone else in the room… I see you. Maybe you’re navigating the beautiful, brilliant, and often exhausting "spiky profile" of a twice-exceptional (2e) child. One minute they’re explaining the physics of a black hole, and the next, they’re in a full-blown meltdown because you cut their toast the ‘wrong’ way.
I know that feeling of being the only person in the room who truly sees the child behind the "behaviours." I know the weight of trying to be a parent while also being a full-time advocate, therapist, and researcher.
That’s why I created Kind of Extraordinary.
What this space is (and what it definitely isn’t)
In a world full of "quick fixes" and parenting influencers who suggest "sticker charts" to motivate your child (spoiler: they rarely work for ND children), I wanted to build something different.
This is a space for:
Everyday Advocacy: Breaking down complex UK legislation into plain English and helping you feel less isolated whilst navigating school systems.
Regulation and Connection over Compliance: Moving away from "making them fit in" and techniques that shame ND kids and towards helping them feel safe, understood and accepted.
Strengths-Based Support: Celebrating the hyperfocus and the "extraordinary" while being honest about the barriers.
A Touch of Humour: Because sometimes, if you don’t laugh at the absurdity of everything you’re juggling (or the fact that you've listened to the same Disney song 40 times today), you might just cry.
This is NOT a space for:
"Fixing" your child: They aren’t broken. They aren’t less. They are neurodivergent.
Toxic Positivity: I won’t pretend this isn't hard. You don’t need to be superhuman… It’s okay to be tired.
Jargon-heavy lectures: I’m a professional, but I’m a human first.
Why I’m here
While my heart is rooted in my lived experience (my own late diagnosis and raising two twice-exceptional children), my toolkit has been built on professional ground. My professional background in supporting parents of gifted and neurodivergent children and my training in child mental health, special educational needs and neuro-affirming therapy approaches like AutPlay mean that everything I share here is grounded in evidence, empathy and genuine understanding.
I’ve spent years navigating the intersection of high cognitive abilities and support needs. I’ve seen the "systemic issues" first-hand, and I’m here to help you navigate them without losing your mind (or your child’s spark) in the process. I understand how isolating and exhausting it can feel at times, navigating all of this… I also know first-hand how reassuring it can feel to talk to someone who gets it.
You are already the expert in your child. I’m just here to help you find the confidence, words, the tools, and the community to prove it.
