Welcome, I’m so glad you’re here.

I’m Emma, a late-diagnosed neurodivergent parent to two twice-exceptional kids, and the founder of Kind of Extraordinary: a neurodiversity-affirming consultancy supporting families who want practical, strengths-based strategies to better understand and support their children, especially when navigating education, regulation, and advocacy challenges.

I offer flexible, therapy-informed services including 1:1 consultations, strategy sessions, advocacy preparation, and ongoing support. Support I offer is always centred on compassion, collaboration, and the lived experiences of neurodivergent families.

If you’re here because you’ve been searching for clarity, compassion, and practical guidance that actually fits real life… you’re in the right place.

Who I support

Parents and carers of neurodivergent children (including but not limited to autistic, ADHD, PDA, 2e)

Educators, SENCOs and professionals seeking guidance on inclusive practice

Therapists, playworkers, and allied professionals

Neurodivergent adults seeking to better understand their experiences

Families navigating school systems and SEND support services

Those seeking neurodiversity-affirming, child-led support without clinical jargon

Who I am

I’m a parent, a certified AutPlay Therapy provider, and a neurodivergent professional who understands first-hand the challenges families face when raising children who don’t fit the mould. When supporting families,I bring that knowledge, lived experience, and compassion into every conversation. I value honesty, curiosity, and connection. I believe neurodivergentchildren thrive when they are recognised, supported, and celebrated… not changed. And I believe parents deserve the same: compassionate support, clarity, and a safe space where they feel seen and heard.

What sets me apart is the combination of professional expertise and deep personal understanding. I bridge the gap between theory and real life. I help parents make sense of big feelings, behaviour, confusing systems, and difficult school conversations; not with cookie-cutter advice, but with insight that respects their child’s individuality and their own intuition.

I want my clients to know that they are already doing better than they think. They are already the parent their child needs, they aren’t in this alone, and they don’t have to explain their child’s uniqueness or brilliance to someone who doesn’t get it because I actually get it.

My work is shaped by both lived experience and professional training. As a neurodivergent parent, I understand how important it is to find guidance that feels compassionate, practical, and genuinely affirming. Alongside that personal perspective, I’ve completed specialist training in neurodiversity-affirming practice, play-based approaches, and parent support. These qualifications help ground my work in evidence-informed approaches while always keeping the real lives of families at the centre.

Here is an overview of my current qualifications.

  • AutPlay Therapy Certification

  • IPSEA SEND Law Level 1

  • Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Special Educational Needs

  • NCFE Cache Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism

  • TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health

Fun (but very relevant) things to know about me…

The name came from a truth I live by:
"Kind of Extraordinary" is a reminder that neurodivergent kids and the people raising them, don’t need to be fixed. They’re already extraordinary in their own way, and kindness should be at the centre of everything.

I’m probably building LEGO when inspiration strikes.
I use a lot of play-based tools in my work, but LEGO is also one of my personal hyperfocus joys and yes, it occasionally ends up in my content. Play isn’t just for kids. It's how we learn, regulate, and reconnect.

You won’t find sticker charts or behaviourist approaches here.
I believe co-regulation beats correction, and connection builds real change. Everything I do is rooted in neurodiversity-affirming practice and compassion-led support.

Your messages won’t be answered by a robot.
Every message, every summary, every Kind of Extraordinary resource is written by me… a real human who understands that parenting ND kids is messy, beautiful, and often really hard! You’ll always be met with empathy, not just copy and pasted advice.

I speak fluent parent guilt, and I don’t buy into it.
So many of my clients carry parent guilt… they feel like they’re not doing enough, that they don’t know enough, or aren’t being patient enough. I get it, I’ve been there!  I still feel the same way some days so I get how hard it can be. I hold space for those feelings, but I also help parents rewrite that narrative with compassion and context.

How do I keep families safe?

At Kind of Extraordinary, safeguarding children, young people and families is a core commitment. I follow safeguarding best practice in line with UK legislation, including secure data handling, appropriate vetting, and reporting procedures. I work transparently with families and follow local safeguarding protocols depending on the child’s location.
